The National Cancer Institute (NCI) was tasked with consolidating its activities at its Shady Grove Headquarters in Rockville, Maryland, to capture savings through space use efficiencies and to better serve its mission. The effort included construction activities and the relocation of over 2,400 personnel in various departments and from multiple buildings.
Alfonso & Associates Consulting professionals provided interior design and space planning support services for the relocation of the NCI from four buildings in Executive Plaza location to the new Shady Grove Campus. To provide the client with maximum flexibility, the work was completed in phases and included providing interior design staff onsite five days a week. The team also designed common areas, conference rooms, workstations, private offices, and coordination of construction documents to ensure all fit-out requirements were met.
The Facilities Division and the end users occupying the new campus were very pleased with the organization and design of the facility. The feedback from all groups was overwhelmingly positive, and NCI has contracted the team for another full year of follow up design work for additional services.
